Moondance 2010
Planetdance did extremely well at our second eisteddfod of the year. We placed
in every section we entered. Our official tally was
1st - 10
2nd- 4
3rd- 3
Our jazz results were outstanding - we took out every age group except 8s in
which we placed second. I was especially pleased with 'Ray of Light' which
really seemed to take on all of Mr Mitchell's notes from the last eisteddfod. I
must admit I was surprised to see the judges give a standing ovation for 'White
Wedding'. Through all my years at eisteddfods this has never happened. Our
senior troupe really pulled together after a hard week. Special mention to our
6/u troupes who both danced so well for their very first eisteddfod. We look
forward to our next competition where we will be competing against 18 schools!!!
The entertainment section was a blast to watch. Our "Elegance" girls looked
exquisite and our little nuns were so cute. The "Producers" stole the show again
- what a great routine!!!

Tappers once again did a great job with
our 8s and 10s coming in 1st and our seniors in 3rd place. "Cartoon Crew" was a
crowd favourite also taking out the top prize. Miss Isabelle would have been
pleased with the senior modern who looked very rehearsed and also won their
section.
We have to thank Miss Lyn for all her hard work on the costumes. I am so glad
she has been given the recognition she deserves by taking out all the costume
awards at the eisteddfod. Thanks also to Miss Allyson and Mitch who accompanied
me to Bangkok and helped pick out some of the costumes that were part of the
teams that won the awards.
The elimination sections were so much fun and gave us so many 'Moondance
Moments' for 2010. Click here for some photos.

It was fabulous to see so many of our new students joining
in the elimination and some even making the finals on their first go!!!! Great
job! Planetdance was also lucky enough to be represented in the major junior
solo awards. Cameron Wilcox won $100 cash and the title of ‘Most Promising
Junior’ and Miah-Rose Lake won a free pass to the Australian Dance Workshops and
the title of ‘Most Outstanding Junior Girl’.

students.

Dancelife Unite
Our first eisteddfod was a great kick start to
the year. The competition was fierce and inspiring at the same time. An industry
professional commented that there must be at least 7 of the top 15 schools in
Sydney competing at "Dancelife Unite". I feel privileged to hear that
Planetdance is considered in this league and thoroughly enjoyed seeing the
wonderful work that other studios have been doing as well.

Our tappers dominated at this eisteddfod -placing in every tap section. Our
12/Us received high praise from the judges coming in 1st place in a very hard
section. Special mention goes to our 8/U tap troupe who received 1st place in a
routine with lots of brand new members. It's great that you helped us keep up
our reputation in the younger tap sections - our littlies have placed 1st or 2nd
in every competition entered for the last 2 years!!!

The jazz sections were hotly contested. I was
particularly pleased with all the new Planetdancers who competed in these
sections. I have to single out the seniors in this category who really gave it
everything they possibly could in their 'White Wedding Routine'. To place 3rd,
with a brand new routine, amongst the top jazz schools in Sydney really was a
wonderful effort. Leanne Cherney, one of the adjudicators in this section
absolutely loved this routine and gave us a fabulous report. Lots of audience
members also commented how they loved our new senior dance.
The Cartoon Crew, although a small group also made a big impact in their Hip Hop
section.

Planetdance continues to strive to provide students with an all round performing
arts education. We believe that singing and acting are essential tools if you
want to work in the entertainment industry. We won both entertainment sections
we entered at Dancelife Unite. Congrats to the 14/Us with their very popular
rendition of "Thirteen'.

The 12/u troupe won a bonus award of 'Most
Entertaining Junior Troupe' after they received a perfect score of 200/200. What
a great way to recognise that we are training our students so well in this area.

Overall, it was a fantastic new competition which
I am sure will grow even bigger and better next year (if that's possible).
Congrats to Ash Power who also took out one of only three individual prizes as
the most outstanding intermediate performer. Ash wins a scholarship to next
years "Electric Safari" - well deserved Ash!!!

Planetdance also competes regularly in talent quests throughout Sydney. Our
latest success came from the Chatswood Talent Quest which saw two of our
students excel in the finals. Lachlan Dearing won the junior section with
Miah-Rose Lake coming in as the runner up. Both students won fantastic cash
prizes. I am continually hearing excellent feedback from industry judges about
these two students who have been nicknamed by their peers the King and Queen of
Song and Dance!!!
