Make music with your feet. Develop rhythm, timing and clear sound.

The style, explained

What is
Tap?

Tap is a percussive dance style: dancers use the metal plates on their tap shoes to make rhythms. Steps combine sounds from different parts of the foot, building from simple patterns into more detailed sequences. Listening matters as much as movement.

Where does it come to life?

You may recognise tap in stage musicals and rhythm-led dance performances. In class, keeping a steady beat helps a dancer stay together with the group; learning to hear and repeat a rhythm is a practical musical skill they can use in choreography and other music activities.
